THE STORY

The HOKORE pendant is a pure work of art. The play of the light and shadow will add a sculptural feeling in any setting.

Hokore means proud in Japanese and the inspiration for the lamp is the strength of a flower bud growing into full bloom. Using the traditional art of 'takesensuji', which is a technique traditionally used to make insect cages and paper lanterns, the lamp builds on tradition while adding a modern look and use.

The lamp is carefully handcrafted in Japan by the artist Tani Toshiyuki together with bamboo masters using nearly 1,000 bamboo strips.

CHO Nominated for the Scandinavian Design Award 2024. CHO lamps are the result of a study on shapes that appear when adding pressure to an oval piece of paper. A sheet with two curved pressings, gently wedged into a slim metal frame. As a wing catch carrying itself resiliently between two pylons. Here it unfolds into a poetic shade that spurs on creative interpretation of the beholder and changes at the point of view.

Cho means butterfly in Japanese which is how the shape speaks to the designers. The lightness of the shade meeting the solidity of the steel base, white meeting black.

The lamp comes in two sizes. The large version with the long legs is ideal as a floor lamp, slightly offset from the wall, while the little one is intended as a table lamp for the windowsill, dresser or desk. With its semi-matte translucent shade, CHO provides a diffused and calm light, and its sculptural silhouette appears elegant and glorious in the room.

The RON pendant combines the bamboo craftsmanship of the artist with the softness and warmth of the paper shade.

A unique feature is that the paper shade can be turned upside down and change the expression of the lamp.

Often paper lamps are constructed with bamboo or wire, but for the RON pendant the Japanese paper is instead wrapped around PET resin and starchy glue to let light through and reduce the shadow of the paper itself.

Ron Pendent Light

The award-winning DAWN wall lamp is designed to be placed centred above a double bed, sofa or where reading light is required on two sides. One lamp instead of two lamps on each side of the bed or sofa.

With the eye-catching geometric shape, DAWN is a centrepiece in any setting. The simple shape holds an element of surprise, when unfold by the user – transforming the strict circle into a dynamic curved shape.

DAWN has two sources of light that can be switched on and off separately. When opening the lamp shade the direction and amount of light is determined. There is a built-in dimmer switch whereby the strength of the light can be adjusted to the preferred reading light.

The flexible lampshade is made of beautiful structured Japanese PVC coated washi paper with light-tight plastic foil on the back. The oak beam creates friction against the lampshade and holds it in place in various positions.

DAWN is the winner of the Light category in the Danish TV show Denmark’s Next Classic 2022. Furthermore DAWN is the winner of the Scandinavian Design Award 2023 in the Light category.

JAPANDI

COMBINING JAPANESE & DANISH DESIGN

DANISH DESIGN - Less is definitely also more when it comes to Danish design. Clean lines and a love for materials are at the heart of Danish design. A product should first serve a purpose and aim to help solve a problem: form follows function.

Factors such as a scarcity of raw material have led to a great respect for materials and a simplistic approach to design in Denmark as well as Japan. This means that any excess details are often eliminated in Danish design, letting the shapes and material of the product be the decoration in itself. The raw material stands out in its own right, and often the natural surface of a material such as the lines of the wood is emphasized as a key design element of the product.

TAMA Pendent by Motarasu

TAMA is a re-imagination of the traditional circular shape of the paper lantern, crafting an equilateral octagon solely through the use of heat treatment, without relying on any wire structure.

Tama means jewel in Japanese. This piece originates from Mito, celebrated as one of the primary regions for paper lantern craftsmanship. The lantern's exterior has undergone a special process to repel water and stains, incorporating eco-friendly components like a PET resin framework. Typically, bamboo or wire is used for the lines of the frame, but for this lamp the frame has been cast in PET resin to let light through the frame and minimize the silhouette.

ENSO pendant is based on traditional Japanese wood joinery using the best materials and handcraft and developed for LED light.

The lamp shades is constructed with special coated Japanese washi paper making it strong and leaving a soft and diffuse light. The oak wood joinery is fixed with magnets, making the shade easy to open and clean with a cloth.

Suitable for many locations including dining tables, kitchen islands, meeting tables, restaurants etc.
